Westminster
travelled south to Key West on Friday night for their first road game of the
2012 regular season. Key West jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a 2-RBI
single by 1B Hugo Valdez in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the
third inning the Warrior bats came alive after Ozzie Van Der Dijs drew a walk
the shortstop Johnny Ruiz singled, Ruiz will go on to have his first 5-5 game
of his baseball career (3 singles, 2 triples). A passed ball would bring in the
first run of the ball game for the Warriors, but the bats took the task from
that point forward. Danny Sanchez would double in Ruiz tying the game up at
two. David Thompson followed up with his first homerun of the 2012 season
giving the Warriors the 4-2 lead; a lead they will never relinquish.
David
Thompson would end the day 2-4 with 4 RBI's and Daniel Sanchez would bring in 2
runs of his own. Marc Sanchez would go on to pitch 5 innings strong and be a
credited the win. Warriors would cruise towards their second victory of the
season 11-4.
