Has anybody had a
better last two days then Mandy Alvarez? Ok, maybe the creators of “instagram”
who just inked a billion dollar buy out with Facebook. But, I bet Mandy’s
feeling like a billion bucks lately. Mandy Alvarez was fresh off his game
winning Homerun at Marlins Park (Tuesday)when the flares for the dramatic made
another appearance for Alvarez and the Cougars on Wednesday against the Hialeah
T-Breds.
It was a back and
forth ballgame that saw both teams manufacture a run a piece in the first
inning off miscues while Hialeah added a run in the same frame via a Cody
Fulton Double to give Hialeah the early 2-1 lead. It wouldn’t be long until the
Cougars found a way to tie up the ball game; in the second Erik Molina would
hit a Homerun to tie the game at 2.
In the bottom of the
fourth Gil Polanco would drive in Spencer Levine with an RBI single to take a
3-2 lead.
From that point
forward pitching stole the show. Thirteen of the next fourteen hitters
(combined) would be retired by both opposing pitchers to set up yet another
dramatic finish for Killian.
In the top of the 7th
inning Hialeah would load the bases with no outs. Jonathan Diaz was able to tie
the ballgame with an RBI single and tie the game at three runs apiece.
But, just when you
would be tempted to count the Cougars out Killian reliever Alex Porrua would
resuscitate the Cougars by striking out the next hitter Henry Perez and forcing
Nestor Cortes to hit into a inning ending double play.
The Killian faithful
went into their dugouts pumped, and it was evident offensively. Gil Polanco
would lead of the inning with a single and an error followed by an intentional
walk would load the bases for Mandy Alvarez. That’s when Mandy Alvarez would
shine for the second day in a row, he would single in the game winning run that
gave the Cougars a win in a game that many wouldn’t give them a chance in.
Killian tops Hialeah 4-3.
