Many picked Gulliver in the beginning of the season to win the Class 4A District 16 championship. But, as the 2012 season played itself out all the rave was about St. Brendan’s resurgence and dominating performances day in and day out. St. Brendan would go on to win the Class 4A District 16 Championship against the regular season favorite Gulliver. Yet, with that defeat fresh on the minds of the Raiders Wednesday offered a rematch against the Sabers, in which the winner would punch a ticket into the Regional Finals.
In the Top of the third inning Gulliver would get on the board first. Chris Santisteban with a two-run jack off starter Bryan Quinn to give the Raiders the early 2-0 lead.
Henry Hernandez would lead the top of the fourth with a solo-shot to extend the Gulliver lead to 3 runs.
Quinn’s day was done after that. He would allow three earned runs on 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in his short (three inning) outing.
Those three runs were more than enough for Gulliver’s Ivan Pelaez. Only two men were able to reach on Pelaez in his outing a double by Sly Edwards in the first and Eric Alvarez in the second reached on a dropped third strike. In essence, Pelaez retired 22 out of the 23 hitters he faced.
Gulliver advances to the Regional Finals where they will face the winner of the Pace @ Coral Springs game tonight at 7PM. Live stats for that game can be seen here http://www.pointstreak.com/baseball/scoreboard.html?leagueid=252&seasonid=12195
