The Dolphins reached an agreement Wednesday with unsigned draft pick Olivier Vernon.
Defensive end Olivier Vernon signed a four-year contract worth $2.848 million with a signing bonus of $638,080.
Vernon (6-3, 260 pounds), a former University of Miami standout and graduate of American Senior High, is expected to compete for a starting job at defensive end opposite Cameron Wake. The Dolphins drafted Vernon in the third round (72nd pick), making him the first player they drafted from UM since 2004 (Vernon Carey).
The Dolphins, who were impressed with Vernon’s physical abilities during May’s rookie camp, are looking for Vernon to fill the role of a pass-rushing specialist similar to Jason Taylor’s role last season.
